Sultan Qaboos College for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers

Arabic ranks as the sixth most spoken language across the world with an estimate of over 280 million native speakers across the 22 countries of the Arab world.

The beauty of the Arabic language and fascination with its culture and origins has captivated many across centuries. More recently, a desire to strengthen cultural exchange, understanding, and communication with the Arab world has brought about an increasing interest in the Arabic language.

The establishment of Sultan Qaboos College for Teaching Arabic to Non-Native Speakers in Oman has been a response to a global desire to learn Arabic and foster greater cultural understanding and openness. The College was established by a Royal decree from His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, who has promoted the spread of Arabic globally by establishing chairs in Arabic Language Studies in a number of universities across the world.

Arabic is significant in the Omani Sultanate’s cultural approach locally and globally. Arabic is the official language of the Sultanate, the language of education, the language of communication between the Sultanate and all the Arab countries, and above all, it is the language of the Holy Qura’n.
